Dr. Abdul Ghani Qassem says in his article that the U.S. government is a military imperial administration extending its hegemony to the Arab-Islamic world in a strategic alliance with the Zionist entity that is occupying the Arab Palestinian land. The author questions whether the Arab masses could be continued that deployment of U.S. troops in any Arab country, before attacking Iraq, is aimed at “raising efficiency of Arab armies”. One would wonder why such training needs have urgent in parallel with stepped up hostile campaign by American against the Palestinian resistance organizations and against Iraq.
The article continues that intensive visits to Arab countries by head of the U.S. intelligence and commanders of American naval fleet, in addition to successive joint military maneuvers give very clear indication. They represent practical declaration on taking part in a big war crimes intended against a vital Arab country. Any of those accomplices in this crime should stop unleashing “false statements” pretending their unacceptance of “changing the Iraqi require”. It is better for them to publicize their accomplice in the treason instead of practicing it covertly.

Columnist Zaid al-Shami confirms in his article it is supposed the elections supreme committee to be independent. It should undertake the task of managing elections affairs in a just, honest and transparent manner. It should provide guarantees opening equal opportunities for all, not merely an echo of the ruling party. Accomplishing fair elections is an achievement for the People’s General Congress party. Regretfully, the elections supreme committee has created disappointment as regards to elections process. It is demonstrating big siding against opposition parties. Whatever stances taken by the ruling party is correct, and the opposition is always wrong, that is the attitude the committee has been adopting.
Parties of the Joint Meeting have taken a responsible nationalist stand when they demanded sound criteria to be applied to distribution of participants in the electoral committees. By such a stance, they have not overstepped the limits as they have asked for the minimum extent of sharing. It is unfair to have the ruling party enjoying the majority in all of the committees. Credibility of the Supreme Committee’s independence could not be ascertained by media statements alone, and by lashing out at the Joint Meeting parties, but rather through actions and measures taken by it.

Columnist Ali al-Saqqaf says at the time when the economic and security in our country is approaching the verge of collapse resulting from the mistaken policies of the authority, some government-run newspapers are still talking about gains, economic growth and prosperity of the people. If it happens that someone has warned against dangers of the government’s continued destructive policies, those papers would immediately defend these policies, describing their critics as violating that they call national constants and impinging upon the homeland’s high interests.
The supreme interests of the homeland, as we understand them, mean the interests of approximately 20 million people. Half of the people lives under the line of poverty. As for interests of the handful who live a kind life, reminding us of that of Roman emperors, at the expense of millions of the poor, I do not think they have any relationship with the homeland interests.
RAY weekly, organ of Yemen-Sons League party, 20 Aug.2002

-Elections committee puts parties out of the elections committees
-Justice ministry to install tax courts

-Time bomb planted near Lahj education college dean office, defused
The newspaper’s editorial remarks that there are some who push the issue of parties shares in registration committees towards escalation to render it an axial one. The elections supreme committee’s decision of keeping parties away from the committee pours in the this direction. It is as if there are certain rides interested in preoccupying Yemen’s political forces in secondary issues in implementation of some purposes. Our party has been hoping that all would seize the opportunity to have agreement on scientific and objective criteria realizing equal opportunities and establishing for the principle of transparency and dealing with democracy as integrated system. Ousting political parties from taking part in registration committees confirms that there is not yet an enough convictions of the importance collective participation in building the democracy and consequently in leading development process. Sons of Yemen league party sees this is question that only needs one objective consideration building for an absolute future in dealing and action. It has declared that democracy is still chained with tens of essential problematic need to pay attention to create real reforms leading Yemen out of its compound crises.
Al-Balagh Weekly, 20 Aug. 2002.
Main Headlines:
-Local council members in Aden, arrested on charge of toppling the regime
-American assassination plan against Arab, Islamic leaders and personalities
-Iraq-scale attacks amongst Yemeni students in Iraq
-Vice-president warns against plot to divide the region’s countries
The newspaper’s editorial says we have been stressing that the U.S. does not respect any of its old friendships and what motivates it is the American interest. It would so soon use various starts of pressure and rather terrification against its friends if they have another view-points.
Her is the United States today targeting its arrows at the kingdom of Saudi Arabia that is refusing strikes on Iraq. America is using files, including that of 11 September, through filing law suits against Saudi institutions and some Saudi princes, at the forefront of whom prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz.
The kingdom of Saudi Arabia has taken a positive stance by opposing the strike on Iraq due to its realization of hidden aims of the scheme machinated by America against the entire regime, including Saudi Arabia itself.
The editorial continues that to consolidate the positive stand which is receiving Arab and Islamic support, drawing up unified strategy to confront this plot is the sole best way to stand up to the American pressures. Responding in support for attacking Iraq, would not spare or save any of the region’s countries from that scheme.
On the contrary, attacking Iraq is the beginning for achieving the American-Zionist plan against the whole area.
26 September, organ of Yemen Armed Forces, 22 Aug. 2002.
Main Headlines:
-Sever punishments, search campaigns against weapons shops
-Yemeni-Lebanese summit late next month
-Iraq’s culture minister to convey message to President Ali Abdulla Saleh in few days
-Ethiopian foreign minister to visit Yemen late this month
-Defense minister, Turkish ambassador to Yemen, sign agreement on technical cooperation
In its write-up, the newspaper confirms that the Americans are seeking to change regime in Iraq by force, represents a dangerous precedence arousing concern and skepticism among many in the world. It is become such a step would be violation of basic legal, moral rules of international relations and international order. As much as this represents an apparent breach of international legitimacy and conventions, it would as much have connection to enhancement of the policy force, violence and law of jungle and flagrant interference in affairs of an independent sovereign state. It would spread climates of chaos and instability.
The republic of Yemen, while keen to unite the Arabs and Muslims and overcome the present situation, renews its call for enhancing solidarity and deprive those who try to sow disputes of such an opportunity.
There is no way for consolidating the nation’s capabilities to confront challenges and overcome difficulties, other than solidarity and unity. The evil schemes the Zionist circles are machinating and seeking to push the United States to adventures and military confrontations with people and countries in Arab and Islamic world, as is now happening with Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, would entail dangers against security and stability in the region and threaten American interests and the relations with the Arabs and Muslims. It would lead to America’s loss of support and alliance in its declared war on “terror”.

Columnist Hashim Abdullaziz wonders if sound and beneficial relations could be established between a party that begs and another that ignores?
The author reaches a conclusion that upon this imbalance the Arabs and Americans have built their relations for many decades. Thus it is no surprise that results lead to the present situation in the Arab-American relations.
The United States, with a colonialist alliance with Britain and Israel, is fighting the Iraqis’ living, will, sovereignty, unity and regime.
The U.S. is also fighting Syria’s policies, options, and international relations and regional role. The U.S. refuses the Palestinians’ rights to their authority and antagonizes their struggle to restore their rights. On the other hand it supports the Zionist entity’s presence that is based on aggression, occupation, colonization and committing of the most unsightly crimes.
Have not all these events and realities proved that the Arabs would not reap from the U.S. and British but catastrophes?
