Columnist Najeeb Mohammed Yabelli says in his article that a legislative body in any society is measured by its power enacting laws in favor of the human, extent of its effectiveness in watching public property, monitoring the executive institutions. It should practice its authority of thoroughly examining feasibility for the homelands interests represented in all agreements. Our citizen expects that his representatives are fully aware of the international conventions, especially those related to human rights. Our country is member of several international bodies and institutions concerned with civil rights and economic, social and cultural rights. Our parliament tenure has been extended from four to six years to end on April 27,2003. The question is whether this parliament was at the level of the confidence granted to it. Press has to exercise its role in urging the society to shoulder its responsibility for evaluating the parliament members during their tenure through a comprehensive evaluation of their practice. But the coming elections were held without carrying out an evaluation to the work of this parliament, it should denote that we are a society of obedience and silent majority. It would mean that the state of law and order we aspire for would not see the light and no one would respect us.
