Efforts to Establish the Yemeni Movement for Defending Democracy [Archives:2001/09/Front Page]

Serious efforts, in the form of discussions and consultations, are taking place among intellectuals and political activists to form the “Yemeni Movement for Defending Democracy.” “The decision to start forming this movement is due to the many negative signs around us, particularly in the context of the violations and fraud attempts that were witnessed during the recent elections. It is time to form a movement of politically independent people to spread awareness about democracy and to defend freedom of expression and democratic values before it is too late,” Dr. Faris Al-Saqqaf Head of the Future Studies Center told YT.
“We need to save whatever is left of our democracy before it is all gone. All the negative developments taking place around us emphasize the importance of taking this important step,” he added.
